Water Water Everywhere

WOW! We lucked out in my area but many areas all around me haven't been so lucky. We had some water in the basement but we always have that. The creek about a 1/2 mile away flooded overnight but that is expected. In other areas of PA & NJ though they are talking anywhere from 4 feet to 16.8 feet above flood stage! One defenition of flood stage that I read is the stage when a river or creek will overflow it's natural banks. That means that in Easton PA tomorrow the river will be 16.8 feet above the natural banks of the river or at least where the flood gage is. WOW! That is some serious water. The photo above was taken from a local paper and shows flood waters covering US Rt 1 in Chadds Ford PA!

To all those who think about driving thru the water I say simply, "Don't! Unfortunatly my work demands kept me at work today and not out shooting my own photos of the weather and the various public safety incidents from it.

Why They Call it Dope!

Today I read a report in our local paper that affirms that drugs do harm your mind. A couple was out for a ride and were craving their heroin fix. So they figured they'd be enterprising about it and shoot up while driving. Well as the male passenger was shooting up and his girlfriend was preparing to shoot up with one hand on the steering wheel they roll up on a DUI checkpoint. Well I guess they figured that Justice is blind so they could just act cool and the cops wouldn't notice anything, after all isn't a DUI checkpoint about drinking.

Well I certianly wish I could have seen the cops face when he looked in the car and saw the two of them! She went to jail for DUI and possession and he went to jail for possession. Because stupidity is not illegal they were not charged with that!

Godspeed Bobby Getschel

From Chief Billy G @ Firefighter Close Calls I received information that 18yo Bobby Getschel a firefighter with the Floral Park NY FD died in his sleep this past Thursday. Reading Bobby's webpage it seems that he and I have a few things in common, Bobby just go his Amatuer Radio license recently and in addition to being a firefighter he had an interest in law enforcement. Here's the text from BillyG's "Secret List"

Hey...
18 year old Floral Park (Long Island) Volunteer Firefighter Bobby Getschel was up late making sure all the candles from a vigil for a classmate killed in a car crash (he responded to that crash that killed a total of 4 kids) had been extinguished. The firefighter took a nap Thursday morning, took an exam, and went back to bed. He never woke up.

Getschel, who had open-heart surgery in 2001, died one day after fellow graduating senior Kevin McArthur, also 18, was among four young kids killed in a horrific accident. Firefighter Getschel, whose cause of death has yet to be determined, had responded to the scene of the crash in Floral Park early Wednesday.

The second death in two days of a member of Floral Park Memorial High's Class of 2006 shocked the close-knit school, which had planned a Tuesday morning memorial service for McArthur that now will include Firefighter Getschel. Both families will receive their loved ones' high school diplomas.

Students at Floral Park were not surprised that its newspaper staff recently honored Getschel with a front-page profile that said his recognition was "long overdue." But on Thursday, the very day the issue was distributed, his classmates were shocked to hear that Getschel, whose generosity and positive energy had touched so many lives, had unexpectedly died in his sleep.

Before he had his operation in 2001, Bobby was pale and his lips blue and he was coughing a lot, his father said. The family found out he had a connective tissue disorder, and with open-heart surgery doctors fixed one valve. After the operation, he had few physical problems, his father said.

Getschel had just visited his cardiologist for a checkup, and his doctor had said he was fine and that his next visit should be in a year. Next Saturday, Bobby would have graduated from high school. This fall, he would have enrolled in John Jay College of Criminal Justice in pursuit of his dream to become a Nassau County police officer.

The Floral Park Fire Department, where Getschel was just approved to be a rescuer, responded to the "male not breathing" call for Bobby on Thursday -- and firefighters were stunned to see one of their own. "Devastated," said Everett Ulmer, a chief at FPFD, recalling the moment he saw Getschel, one of his most committed firefighters.

On Sunday at 8 p.m., the FPFD will honor him as a full firefighter. Above details from Newsday.com. We will post updates on FireFighterCloseCalls.com. Our deepest sympathies go out to the families involved and to the Floral Park FD members.

*****PLEASE NOTE****** I did a search for this kid by his name, and I found his personal website....read his scrolling news, listen to the song he has on the site ("...you don't know what you have till' it's gone....") , the links he has etc....this kid was totally into the stuff we do.....so very sad for a promising, gung ho young member of our fire service.

Micheal Berg is a idiot!

HT Blonde Sagacity for the article!

This letter was posted on the Stop the War Coalition website. I find it totally absurd so I will post it and take it apart to voice my opinions on it. BTW Micheal Berg is running for political office on the Green Party ticket in neighboring DE.

Letter from Michael Berg
This is a message from Michael Berg, father of Nicholas Berg, to the Stop the War Coalition on 16th May 2004. It will be read out to the Emergency Demonstration on Saturday 22nd May.

To: The Stop the War Coalition
When I read your generous offer to come speak at the Coalition Rally a heart that was overflowing with sorrow knew that it was being offered a receptacle to receive some of that overflow. People who know me, ask me how I can stand in front of a TV camera and know that I am speaking to the people of the world. Seven weeks ago I would not have been able to do so. But seven weeks ago there was no need to do so, and the world was not flooding me with mail, email and phone calls and pouring into me the strength I needed.
When I eulogized my son, Nick, I said that he was my teacher and my hero. He was the kindest, gentlest, man I know, no, the kindest, gentlest human being I know or have ever known. Did you know that he quit the Boy Scouts of America because they wanted to teach him to fire a hand gun ironically, at Dover Air Force Base the place that Nick was returned to? Nick too poured into me the strength I needed and still need to tell the world about him and to send out his message of peace and brotherhood with the family he shared made up of the people of the world.

People ask me why I focus on putting the blame for my son’s tragic and atrocious end on the Bush Administration. They ask: “Don’t you blame the five men who killed him?” I have answered that I blame them no more or less than the Bush Administration, but I am wrong: I am sure, knowing my son, that somewhere during their association with him these men became aware of what an extraordinary man my son was. I take comfort in the fact that when they did the awful thing they did, they weren’t quite as in to it as they might have been. I am sure that they came to admire him. I am sure that the one who wielded the knife felt Nick’s breath upon his hand and knew that he had a real human being there. I am sure that the others looked into my son’s eyes and got at least just a glimmer of what the rest of the world sees. And I am sure that these murderers, for just a brief moment did not like what they were doing.

Are you kidding me? These men were terrorists who hate america, american's and everything we stand for. Does he really think that a few days with his son made them feel better about us? These F$#&s were very happy about what they did that day!

But George Bush never looked into my son’s eyes. George Bush doesn’t know my son, Nick. And he is the worse for it. George Bush, though a father himself cannot feel my pain nor that of my family or the world who grieve for Nick because he is a policy maker, and he doesn’t have to bare the consequences of his acts. George Bush can see neither the heart of Nicholas nor the American People yet alone the people his policies are killing daily. Donald Rumsfeld said that he took the responsibility for the sexual abuse of Iraqi prisoners. How could he take that responsibility when there was no consequence. Nick took the consequences of the policies both stated and given with a wink and a nod by the Bush administration. And I can’t stand even more than those murderers who took my son’s life, those who sit and make policies to end lives and break the lives of the still living.

Nick was not in the military, but he was a soldier. He had the discipline and dedication of a soldier. But Nick Berg was a soldier of peace in Iraq to help the people without any expectation of personal gain.
OK, that's why Nick was trying to get contracts for his company to rebuild antenna towers to restore communications, because he wanted people to be free, not because it was a chance to make money?
The trouble was he was only one man, but through his death he has become many. The spirit, the truly unselfish spirit of giving your all to do what you know in your own heart is right even when you know it may be dangerous, this spirit has spread among the people who knew Nick, and that group has spread and is spreading all over the world even as I write these words For all of the soldiers and family of soldiers in Iraq on either side who believe they were in Iraq working for peace, I say: Nick is your brother. Nick was there to help win the peace not only by helping to rebuild what was torn down, but by spreading his message of peace and love.

So what were we to do when we in America were attacked on September 11, that infamous day? I say we should have done then what we never did before: Stop speaking to the people we labeled our enemies and start listening to them. Stop giving preconditions to our peaceful coexistence on this small planet, and start honoring and respecting every human’s need to live free and autonomously, to truly respect the sovereignty of every state whether it be Israel, or Palestine, or Iraq. To stop making up rules by which others must live and then separate rules for ourselves.

Is he for real? We should have just sat down and reasoned with a terrorist group who launched an attack on our very homeland? We should start honoring and respecting every human's need to live free? Our buddy Sadam was big on that one huh? This man truely has no clue about the real world and how things really are. He must live in a fantasy world

We all know now that the controls for the weapons of mass destruction are in the White House. And George Bush has used a few of those weapons on the world. His ineffective leadershipis a weapon of mass destruction and it has allowed a chain reaction of events that lead to the unlawful detention of my son. Yes it was the US government under whose authority my son was held. No one believes the Iraqi Police control the American FBI and Military, Mr. Bush. That detention immersed my son in a world of escalated violence which were it not for his detention would have had him in my arms again. That detention held him in Iraq not only until the atrocities that lead to the siege of Fallusah, but to the revelation of the atrocities committed in the jails in Iraq in retaliation for which my son’s wonderful life was put to and end.
My son’s life was put to an end, but his work still goes on. Where there was one peacemaker before I now see and have heard from thousands of peacemakers. And for every one of them there are thousands more who can’t find the words but feel the same way. Nick Berg was a man who acted on his beliefs. We the people of this world now need to act on our beliefs. We need to let the evildoers on both sides of the Atlantic know that we are fed up with war. We are fed up with the killing and bombing and maiming of innocent people. We are fed up with the lies from our government about Nick’s detention and we are fed up with the lies from our government about the reasons for this war. Yes, we are fed up with the suicide bombers, and with the failure of the Israeli’s and Palestinians to find a way to stop killing each other. We are fed up with negotiations and peace conferences that are entered into on both sides with preset conditions that preclude the outcome of peace. We want world peace now!!!
What is it, I have to ask, that our leaders and the leaders of the world are afraid they will lose that is any more valuable than PEACE? Many people have offered to pray for Nick and my family. I appreciate their thoughts, but I ask them to include in their prayers a prayer for peace. I ask them to do more than pray. I ask them to demand PEACE NOW! from the politicians and leaders in the white house and in the state houses across the world and in the mountain camps where they may hide. Let the politicians know that you want PEACE NOW! And let them know that if you don’t get it, they aren’t going to work for you as their leaders any more. DEMAND PEACE NOW! DEMAND PEACE NOW! PEACE NOW! PEACE NOW! PEACE NOW!

Idiots!

Another great post by Blonde sagacity Here.
Basically some atheist loser wants the large cross on top of the Mt Soledad War Memorial in California taken down because he is offended by it! He took the issue to federal district court and won! Judge Gordon Thompson sided with him and ordered the city to remove the huge cross w/in 90 days or face fines of $5,000 a day!

WTF is wrong with our society? We have a crystal meth epidemic sweeping our nation, a huge heroin problem in many cities, kids who graduate but can't read or write, and kids who think it's fine to get pregnant by some guy you hardly know and be a single mom using the phrase "My Baby's Daddy", and these jerk offs are going to court because a big cross offended them?

Get a clue people, watch a bit of the news, read something other than the sport and business sections of the paper. Our country has huge issues which need to be addressed and you waste the time of a federal court for this!?!?

To quote Napoleon dynamite "Idiots!"

Shock Magazine

Today I bring you another story of the French being stuck on stupid. Many of you who read lots of Milblogs have probably seen this already but for those that haven't here's the story.

Michael Yon is a freelance photojournalist who has done a lot of work in the Middle East, especially Iraq & Afghanistan. He captured a truly heartbreaking image of an Army officer cradling the body of a very young Iraqi girl who was killed by an IED. This photo appeared on his website to bring a human side to the war. A company known as Polaris Images stole this photo and sold it to HFM publishing, a French company which used the image on the cover of a trash magazine called Shock. When contacted by Michael, HFM refused to honor his wishes to have the magazine removed. Since then Michael & his attorneys have been in negotiations with HFM. During this time HFM has tried every dirty tactic in the book, including threatening to sue Michael for posting information on his blog about the incident and for inciting other bloggers to do the same.
Below I have posted some info from Michaels site, before that though here are a couple links for more info on this issue and how you can help. One thing you can do is boycott the publications from HFM, they produce many including Car & Driver, Road & Track, & Elle.

A complete list is .Here

Make Yourself Heard who to contact and why.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words info from Michael Yon's website

Matt @ Blackfive's info and a copy of his letter to HFM

Here's some facts from Michaels website.

S.H.O.C.K. (Send Hachette Filipacchi Media Our Collective Kick)
Some points to consider:
* The previous "communication" activity of the blogosphere, even though it was uncoordinated and unfocused, worked to get HFM to the
table. Within 10 days, 1000 blogs were posting on or linking to this topic.
* In fact, it worked so well at shocking them, HFMÂ’s first response to was to insinuate a threat to sue Michael Yon for defamation. When
he disclosed that publicly, it backfired on HFM because that company is only concerned with selling its magazines and anything that
interferes with that gets the attention of top executives.
* Another indication of how concerned the company is with the PR of this experience, is that their primary focus was to get Michael Yon
to post what THEY had written about the settlement on Friday last, but he instead posted what he could live with by way of a statement
about the settlement on Monday. And over the weekend, they used every outlet they could to make it look like Michael not only settled
the terms to resolve their infringement but also that he was part of their effort to promote the magazine, about which he continues to
assert:
"The only thing shocking is its lameness, and the only thing it proves is how low a French mega-media publishing conglomerate,
Hachette Filipacchi, will stoop in order to squeeze two bucks out of its sneering mockery of others."
* Yon has said that their spin on the settlement was "like them saying that because I didn't walk out on a lousy concert I gave the band a
standing ovation."
* Yon not only didn't agree to be any part of the effort to sell a magazine that he feels is an insult to the American military,
he demanded they stop all such activity. They responded with false claims that this was part of the settlement, and then they offered
to pay Yon $20,000 more for the promotion uses, but only by taking the money from the donation they'd agreed to give Fisher House.
* They were trying to develop some immunity from any further bad publicity about this by enticing Yon to sell out knowingly so they
could smear him and turn public opinion against him.
* Because this company cannot understand anything except making money at any turn by any means and without any scruples, they have
never been able to "get" what this is really about. They don't have principles, they don't work from values, so they don't understand
what people are all upset about....they don't get how incensed people are that they launched a sleazebag magazine for which they'd
already had extremely limited interest from advertisers and for which sales predictions were dismal, by deliberately using an attack on
American soldiers as a way to sell copies. They did it deliberately on Memorial Day.
*They had a publicity event in Washington DC JUST THIS WEEKEND to explain that the cover story was their way of showing they are also
a serious political, hard news magazine...(of course, that doesn't explain the two spreads on rectal exams, decaying corpses or bloody
disembodied chicken heads...). They think because many Americans have doubts about the war in Iraq, they also don't support their
military. They are dead wrong, all the polls show that, but it is just another indication that this French company doesn't not understand
or respect American consumers.
* During negotiations, Yon learned that HFM had also used (without his permission) his iconic photo on the cover of the March issue of
CHOC, the 2 year old French language magazine upon which SHOCK is based. That magazine sold 350,000 copies—in France. They
tried—at the last minute—to slip that into the deal which was hammered out for the SHOCK magazine. Yon refused that outright.
* They really seem to think we are idiots who will believe anything they say because they are magazine publishers...they apparently
were on a month long vacation when the blogosphere handed mainstream media Rathergate...they claim to be launching a magazine
that will be internet based but they were totally shocked by the reaction of the bloggers...
* In order to send this company a message about American consumers, we need to make sure that we are able to harness the power of
the blogs and focus it in a sustained way. Its important then that bloggers link to the "Make Yourself Heard" page and let us know they've
done so (there is a field they can do this right on the page) and we'll cross link.
*It's also important that bloggers who post on this and link to the page encourage their readers to "Communicate displeasure" and
specifically that they encourage people to take a minute and sign up for the petition and complete the form that captures what actions
they took. We know HFM will be trying to spin this as a big nothing…they have a “let them eat cake” attitude about angry people
protesting the way they do business.
* But if we can get people to report their efforts, this will prevent HFM from trying to minimize the impact of the blogosphere or from
distorting the facts. For example, we know that almost 1000 bloggers have posted on this, so we should have 5 to 8 thousand people
signed up for the petition and reporting on what actions they have taken to communicate their opinions to HFM. But we don't --so we
need to encourage people who have already called or emailed or stopped buying HFM magazines to visit the page and let us know what
they did.
HFM's last threat was to portray Yon and this campaign as "crazy" and by extension to depict the protesters as disorganized and
ultimately trivial. But Yon and other top bloggers are also reaching out to mainstream media and especially to freelance
photographers, illustrators and writers who are frequently bullied by media behemoths, and with people also encouraged to
contact local newspapers, radio and television stations, we can collectively insure that any attempt HFM makes to discredit this
effort will be transparent and will actually be just the latest example of HFM executives acting in ways that prove the veracity of
our growing list of complaints about this dinosaur stomping all over our newsstands with its sneering disdain for its American
customers (except of course for their dollars)
* At the end of the day as long as they sell magazines they consider themselves on the winning side of the dispute. But every magazine
they sell has at least one (and often many more than that) quality alternative, so people can participate in this "communiqué" without
risking falling behind on fashion, automotive, photography, celebrity gossip, home decorating or teen idol news and trends. This is a
painless protest –now that the Make Yourself Heard page is up and updating continuously. A series of clicks enables people to send
emails to all the key players right from one page. Samples of the letters others have sent are right there on the page. We even have
bilingual visitors working on translations of the materials into a range of languages so that people from the 41 countries in which HFM
does business can participate in sending them a message about the importance of respecting their readers

This is messed up!

This guy serves in the combat zones in SW Asia and makes it home only to be killed by some punk car jacker! I say find the son of a bitch and hang his ass from a tall tall tree by his ankles til he dies!

On leave from Navy, man is killed at parents' home

Carjacker kills father 3 days before he was to report back for duty

03:06 PM CDT on Sunday, June 11, 2006

By DAVE LEVINTHAL / The Dallas Morning News

IRWIN THOMPSON/DMN

Relatives gathered to remember Kameron Pratt and offer one another support Saturday. From left is his brother Keanon; his mother, Dorothy; his daughter; Lailah; his father, Leon; and his brother Kebreon.

The past few days ranked among the happiest of Kameron Pratt's recent life.

A chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy, he doted on his 9-month-old daughter, Lailah, as one might expect of a father savoring two weeks' leave during his fourth overseas tour of duty in four years - the latest in the Middle East aboard the USS George Washington.

Mr. Pratt, 34, hardly knew Lailah; father and daughter had been half a world apart since early this year.

Then Friday night, three days before Mr. Pratt was to report for duty again after minor shoulder surgery, an unidentified carjacker shot him after dragging him from his pickup at his parents' home in Dallas' Red Bird area.

Mr. Pratt stumbled to the porch of the home, where his family has lived for about 30 years.

It was there, in a manicured neighborhood where some folks still leave their doors unlocked at night, that his older brother, Keanon Pratt, found him semiconscious.

Keanon Pratt said he dialed 911. He performed CPR. He cradled his brother.

Kameron Pratt tried to speak. But blood pooling in his mouth prevented it. Paramedics arrived and rushed him to the hospital.

And minutes later, he died.

"You think of how many times he's probably escaped death out there in all the places he's been," his younger brother, Kebreon Pratt, said Saturday at the family's home. "And here he is - home - just trying to spend time with his baby. He was on cloud nine.

"And then this happens."

Kameron Pratt would have completed his active-duty assignment in October, relatives said.

He wanted a college degree; he had 113 credits from Texas Southern University and Paul Quinn College, said his father, Leon Pratt Jr. He hoped to teach social studies and coach sports in the Dallas school district.

That made sense, relatives explained: Kameron liked sports and loved kids. As a child, he'd wear the same pinstriped baseball outfit day after day "as if it was the only clothes he had," Leon Pratt recalled, laughing softly.

Kameron Pratt was a talented youth football player and eventually took up amateur boxing, competing as a welterweight and middleweight in tournaments. A fighter and writer, Mr. Pratt became sports editor for the student newspaper at Lincoln High School, where he graduated.

"He was always very excited. He was the life of the party," Kebreon Pratt said.

"Yes, happy-go-lucky," his father added. "But he could be quiet and very observant. He could be very analytical. Most of all, he loved his family, and he loved his friends."

College led to various jobs, but about five years ago, Kameron Pratt found rewarding work eluding him.

He figured the Navy would help him earn a good salary and enlisted at age 30, nearly 12 years after he passed up an opportunity to enter the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md.

"I felt it was a positive move for him," Keanon Pratt said. "And I was proud. Really proud."

In what appears to be a random carjacking, two men in a gold Chevrolet pickup pulled up next to Kameron Pratt's Ford F-150 pickup, Dallas police Sgt. Gil Cerda said Saturday. Mr. Pratt was parked in the driveway of his parents' home in the 6100 block of Lake Placid Drive.

One of the men, wielding a gun, ordered Kameron Pratt out of his truck before shooting him and stealing the pickup, Sgt. Cerda said. Police were investigating, and the men were still at large late Saturday, he said.

On the same porch where Kameron Pratt lay mortally wounded the night before, relatives stood quietly Saturday, hands on one another's backs, sipping water, speaking softly when speaking at all. The phone kept ringing. A steady stream of friends visited.

Little Lailah, passed from relative to relative this sweltering afternoon, just smiled and watched, her big, brown eyes flashing.

Lailah's mother also serves in the Navy and isn't due to return until August. Leon Pratt said he and his wife would continue to care for their granddaughter, as they had been lately.

"We just hope we'll have a good relationship with her mom when she gets back and that we'll all be involved, all the way," Leon Pratt said. "Together, we'll make sure she'll be raised right, that she'll grow up with good values."

But that won't replace Lailah's dad, who couldn't stop playing with her.

"Nothing seems right now. They took away somebody's nephew, a brother, a father," Kebreon Pratt said in the home's living room.

"A soldier," Keanon Pratt said.

From the other side of the room, Leon Pratt listened. He bowed his head.

"A son," he said.

Lawrence Joel- American Hero

First I'd like to thank Big Kenny & John Rich (Big & Rich) for their latest song 8th of November which is a true story of Niles Harris who was wounded on the 8th of Nov 1965 in Vietnam. The Video for this song starts w/ Kris Kristofferson narrating the story. He tells of Lawrence Joel, the first living black man to recieve the Medal of Honor since the Spanish American War. Lawrence Joel was a medic assigned to the 173rd Airborne on that fateful day. While conducting operations to support Operation Hump, the 173rd came under attack by a force of over 1200 Viet Cong forces who ambushed them. During the following 24 hours of battle SPC6 Joel distinguished himself as a medic, here is the citaion from his Medal of Honor.

Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty. Sp6c. Joel demonstrated indomitable courage, determination, and professional skill when a numerically superior and well-concealed Viet Cong element launched a vicious attack which wounded or killed nearly every man in the lead squad of the company. After treating the men wounded by the initial burst of gunfire, he bravely moved forward to assist others who were wounded while proceeding to their objective. While moving from man to man, he was struck in the right leg by machinegun fire. Although painfully wounded his desire to aid his fellow soldiers transcended all personal feeling. He bandaged his own wound and self-administered morphine to deaden the pain enabling him to continue his dangerous undertaking. Through this period of time, he constantly shouted words of encouragement to all around him. Then, completely ignoring the warnings of others, and his pain, he continued his search for wounded, exposing himself to hostile fire; and, as bullets dug up the dirt around him, he held plasma bottles high while kneeling completely engrossed in his life saving mission. Then, after being struck a second time and with a bullet lodged in his thigh, he dragged himself over the battlefield and succeeded in treating 13 more men before his medical supplies ran out. Displaying resourcefulness, he saved the life of 1 man by placing a plastic bag over a severe chest wound to congeal the blood. As 1 of the platoons pursued the Viet Cong, an insurgent force in concealed positions opened fire on the platoon and wounded many more soldiers. With a new stock of medical supplies, Sp6c. Joel again shouted words of encouragement as he crawled through an intense hail of gunfire to the wounded men. After the 24 hour battle subsided and the Viet Cong dead numbered 410, snipers continued to harass the company. Throughout the long battle, Sp6c. Joel never lost sight of his mission as a medical aidman and continued to comfort and treat the wounded until his own evacuation was ordered. His meticulous attention to duty saved a large number of lives and his unselfish, daring example under most adverse conditions was an inspiration to all. Sp6c. Joel's profound concern for his fellow soldiers, at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty are in the highest traditions of the U.S. Army and reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of his country.

As you can see SPC Joel is a true american hero.

Blonde Sagacity has a great post HERE about Firefighter Sean Cummings from FDNY Res1cue and is also an airborne civil affairs specialist with the US Army Reserve. He was recognized recently at the FDNY 2006 Medal day for his heroism last year at a fire in Manhatten where he risked his life to save another. He will not be in attendance though because he is currently deployed with his USAR unit to Iraq and won't be back for another year! Firefighter Cummings is also a native of Ireland who immigrated to the US.

FF Cummings, I am proud to call you a Brother both in the fire service and a brother in arms.

I am Lightning!

You Are Lightning

Beautiful yet dangerous
People will stop and watch you when you appear
Even though you're capable of random violence

You are best known for: your power

Your dominant state: performing

Leading from the Front!

Lt. Gen Amos for the USMC is the kind of officer we all love to work for. He truely is a man who leads from the front and gives a shit. Check out the excellent article in the Sun Herald

"When we send them off to do the nation's bidding in a place like Afghanistan or Iraq and they're wounded, we're not returning the same individual," Amos said. "When we send them back wounded there is a piece of me that says I haven't kept my bargain. What's left for me to do is to continue taking care of them."

Gen Amos is a true warrior who visits everyone equally, he takes care of what problems he can for the Marines but he visits soldiers, sailor, and airmen too.

Keep up the good work General. Hopefully many others will learn from you and become fine officers who lead from the front.

WEST PHILADELPHIA - June 1, 2006 - A man trying to earn extra cash as a pizza deliveryman was gunned down in West Philadelphia overnight.

Police are now looking for a killer. The victim died when family took him off life support system Thursday afternoon. He was a father, a musician and an Iraq war veteran.
"I'm going down there now to pay my last respects to my brother."
Anthony Good joined relatives at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania to say goodbye to his brother, Jermaine Frazier before removing the gunshot victim from a life support system.
Anthony Good/Gunshot Victim's Brother: "Something like this shouldn't have happened to him. Not to a nicer person. It was just senseless."
The 29-year-old father of a newborn was shot in the head on North Wannamaker Street in West Philadelphia last night, while delivering food for a pizza shop.
Victoria Zimmerman/West Philadelphia: "We was in the house watching TV and we heard some gunshots, 2 or 3 gunshots."
The shooter fled and neighbors ran outside to found Frazier bleeding on the ground.
Kenon Hopewell/West Philadelphia: "He was gasping for air. Everybody was trying to get him help. When cops came, threw in paddy wagon and took to hospital."
Police believe the motive was robbery. And that someone called in an order for a Wannamaker Street address, then ambushed Frazier when he arrived. The pizza shop owner, who is afraid to be seen on television, says Frazier worked occasionally to help her and supplement his income. She is disgusted by the tragedy.
"You think people kill people for $5.00 for ten dollars people."
Pizza delivery was Frazier's 3rd job. His brother tells Action News relatives urged the hard working first time father to quit because of the potential danger and thought he had.
"He said he was goine give it up. So we figured he did and we didn't know. But like I said he's so warm hearted, he told the people, 'If you call or ever need me for anything I'm always out there for you.'"
Jermaine Frazier died this afternoon when removed from life support. As police search for the suspect, his family is hopeful anyone who saw anything finds it in their heart to report it to police.

Summer Storms

WOW! Finally some thunderstorms. So far nothing spectacular but it's rumbling and we were under a severe storm warning for a bit. Maybe we'll at least get a good light show after it gets dark.
